GD series Glass Break Detectors (glued)

The GD 300 series of Glass Break Detectors provide a very reliable and false alarm proof protection of normal plate glass panes or tempered glass windows. The detectors can be used in high-level noise environments, providing 24-hour protection without problem. They only detect the shattering of a glass pane and are not affected by surrounding noises. The sensor element is a piezo-electric crystal, which will pick up the pulse of the vibration bulk wave which is created inside the glass when the glass breaks. The analysing electronics in the sensor are tuned to a very high frequency to selectively distinguish between noise created from the outside world and a real break. The detectors require no maintenance and are easy to install.

 

There are two models of each of glued Glass Break detectors:

FOR STANDARD GLASS
GD 330 that has built-in relays, which are normally energized and can be used as stand alone detectors. The current draw is about 3 mA.
GD 335 that has transistor outputs and takes no current in their quiescent state. They must be connected to an interface unit IU 300.
FOR LAMINATED GLASS
GD 370 that has built-in relays, which are normally energized and can be used as stand alone detectors. The current draw is about 4 mA.
GD 375 that has transistor outputs and takes no current in their quiescent state. They must be connected to an interface unit IU 300

 

ACCESSORIES

IU 300 Interface Unit is an electronic adapter for GD 335 detectors to be connected with the central unit. It is not recommended to have more than 20 units on each interface IU 300.
JB 102 and JB 103 are junction boxes specially designed to facilitate the mounting.
GDT 300 is glass break tester, which generates a signal simulating the shattering of a glass pane.

 

The Glass Break detectors must be glued directly to a single window-pane without cracks in order to detect the vibration bulk wave, which is created inside the glass when the glass breaks. A multi-pane window therefore requires one detector on each pane of glass. The radius of protection is dependent upon the thickness of the glass; the thicker the glass, the larger the radius of protection. The reason is simply that a thicker glass requires more force to be broken and therefore creates larger amplitude in the bulk wave. Normal glass of 3 mm thickness has a typical 2 m radius of detection measured from the detector. The maximum glass thickness recommended is 6.4 mm that increases the detection range to approximately 4 metres. These detectors are not suitable for use on wired laminated and plastic glass. They can be used on glass covered with security film, if the detector is mounted on the glass not on the film. Throughout the year a windowpane is exposed to a lot of severe ambient conditions of temperature and humidity. It is therefore essential that the detector is mounted using the recommended adhesive and in accordance with the recommended mounting method to ensure protection efficiency. Problems will be encountered if using adhesives other than that recommended. Initially, an excellent bond can be achieved using a standard type of adhesive however, after a few months the detector is likely to fall off as ultra violet radiation from the sun destroys the polymer chains in the adhesive. Window cleaning solvents can be a problem with normal adhesives as they can penetratea bond and cause a slow breakdown of the adhesive.

To avoid these problems: Only use the recommended adhesive!
